Plans for Germany break out in FR/NL. A site or app that checks where you are connecting from sees a FR/NL mobile IP rather than one in Germany - which matters most for banking apps, government services and anything geo-locked to Germany.

An exit country is not anonymity. It changes what a website sees, not who you are, and we would rather say that plainly than sell it as privacy.

In Germany these plans roam on O2, Vodafone. Your phone picks whichever is strongest where you are standing - you cannot choose one, and there is no local SIM to register in your name.

No ID with us. A local SIM is a different matter

The eSIM on this page needs no ID, no document and no registration. It roams on a foreign network rather than being issued locally, so there is nothing to sign and nothing to hand over - you install it before you arrive. A local SIM bought in the country is a different matter:

Germany only introduced ID registration for prepaid SIMs in July 2017, late for a large EU state. One border away in the Netherlands there is still no such requirement, which is a fair illustration of how little Europe agrees here: 19 of the 28 countries surveyed require registration, 9 do not.
